Through the Prophet Isaiah, God said in Isaiah 55:9(NLT), “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” None of us has the bandwidth to comprehend the immeasurable intelligent of God or how much higher His thoughts are from ours. God has always existed, and time is too small a bucket to contain all that He is. It is not humanly possible to know how long before time that God existed, but nothing existed before Him, and on this we can trust with our whole hearts.
John 3:16(ESV) says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” God loves us! The preciousness of this truth is too vast to be measured. He loved us so much that He gave us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die as a sacrifice for our sins. It is overwhelmingly apparent in His Word and in our everyday reality that God is the greatest incomparable Giver. He never stops giving to us. The very air we breathe, the body He has so wonderfully created to house our spirit and soul. We are because God is, and this is too extraordinary to fathom.
Time is another precious and unique gift that God has given for our lives on earth. Time is a dot smaller than a pin’s head when we compare it to the totality of our eternal life with Christ. As God’s created beings, we exist within time, and we are accustomed to thinking of all aspects of life in terms of a beginning and an end, but God has no such limitations. We are in time, and He is outside of it. He’s given us time as a means of walking together with Him in relationship. God so loves being our Father, and He delights in His relationship with each of us. Undoubtedly, this gift of time that He’s given us is to be used to deepen the relationship we share with Him, but humanity has not viewed it this way.
From the very beginning, when sin entered Adam, the first man, we have disrespected God’s sovereignty, holiness, and love. We were in the worse shape when God sent Jesus Christ into the world. Peace has always been God’s desire for all of creation. Everyday, Adam and Eve, enjoyed the warmth of His love and care, but allowed themselves to be tricked out it, and so it goes with many that have not allowed God’s love to penetrate their hard and selfish hearts.
There is no peace without God, no beauty without His grace, no life without His life-giving Spirit. With Him, there was, and will forever, be absolute joy, praise, and love. Adam and Eve once enjoyed that bliss without the darkness that sin brought but lost it. Oh, the sorrow they brought upon us, but most of us have not rejected their sinful actions. We furthered them. Romans 5:12(NLT) tells us, “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” This is the world that our blessed Lord and Savior entered, and he did so to rescue us.
Luke 2:7(NLT) tells us, “7 She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.” This is our Prince of Peace who left the throne of our All Mighty God to enter a place where he was ridiculed, slandered, and under constant threat. So, few recognized his Kingship, and only twelve walked closely with him as he taught, healed, cast out demons, and did so many other good works that John said in John 21:25(NLT), “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.”
Isaiah 9:6(ESV) declares, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” This prophecy of God was written over 700 years by His prophet, Isaiah, before the birth of Christ. God promised His people a Messiah, and He never forsakes His promises. Jesus Christ is the light, and God promised that the government would be on his shoulders and his alone. As it is today, this was news to those who believed it rested upon theirs.
Even though the prophesy of Isaiah preceded the birth of Jesus 700 years, Isaiah prophesied the birth of the Messiah as a thing already done in his present time. He was certain of God’s promise and encouraged the children of Israel to remember it’s beginning in Genesis 3:15(NLT) when God said, “And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel."
The government, the justice, the basis on which God forgives our sins, rests upon the shoulders of Christ. He’s our foundation, the solid rock upon which we build our faith. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. His throne is above every throne, and his right to govern is guaranteed by our Heavenly Father. He is the Prince of Peace, and he is all that peace represents. He creates, commands, and preserves it, and as God’s children, we can rest in that peace forever.■
